The moment that our designers have been waiting and hoping for since the very beginning, the opportunity to show at New York Fashion Week, has finally arrived. With only four competitors remaining, who will ultimately have what it takes to win Project Runway?
Fashion week is just around the corner, but not before the final four designers are surprised with a trip to Rome, courtesy of Best Western. The designers join Tim in a trip of a lifetime, where they gain inspiration for their collections. Later, Tim visits each of the designers at home to check on their progress. The designers then return to NYC and present a preview of their collection to the judges.
The designers are asked to create a “Street Chic” look inspired by a trip around NYC, courtesy of Lexus. They are also thrown a twist…to redesign one of the “losing looks” this season, and their sewing helper is a previously eliminated designer.
The designers are taken to a large warehouse and told that for their next challenge, they will have to bid on storage units in order to obtain their materials. The designers work in teams of two to make a two-piece cohesive collection from the materials they buy. On the second day of their two-day challenge, Tim presents the designers with the task of designing one more look. When the judges cannot decide who to eliminate on the Runway, two designers face off in a one-hour showdown.
For the Mary Kay Challenge, the designers are asked to find a complete stranger on the street to act as their muse (and model) for a makeover. The real women are given a makeup consult, new haircut, and new outfit. One designer runs into trouble with a zipper before the Runway, which leads to a controversial decision.
After a field trip to the American Girl Store, the designers are asked to create a modern look for a young girl, inspired by the “Beforever” American Doll collection. The designers work with young girls as their models for this challenge.
Inspired by the latest Samsung Curved TV, the designers are asked to create avant-garde pieces that look good from every angle. The twist? The pieces also have to walk the Runway…in the rain! The designers have two days to put together a look that can wow the judges and withstand a “Rainway.”
With the help of Chopard, the designers are asked to create an extravagant eveningwear piece inspired by jewelry of their choosing. They also draw inspiration from the Charles James exhibit at the MET, and Tim decides to use his “Tim Gunn Save” on one designer.
Tim Gunn introduces everyone to the eighteen new designers who will be competing against each other on Project Runway Season 13. He also teases the fact that one of three former designers, chosen strictly by the fans, will be rejoining the competition this season.
All of the designers reunite one last time to discuss their experiences on Project Runway together, settle any last feuds that still exist in the group, and reminisce about their time on this season. Tim Gunn hosts…and a rather spirited discussion leads him to almost lose his cool with the designers!

However, their relaxing is cut short as Tim arrives and explains that their challenge is to design a look for the Modern Southern woman—or, the Belk customer. After a challenging runway, the judges send the bottom three designers back to the drawing board, where they have one hour to rework their looks and save themselves from elimination. Ultimately two designers win the challenge, and one is out.
