In Los Angeles, the team drives through the abandoned city to the coordinates of the mobile CDC lab provided by Citizen Z. There, they discover the lab isn't just a lab — it's a submarine.
The team finally arrives in California. As they near their goal, each member thinks back to where they were at the beginning of the apocalypse and what it took to get where they are today.
All hell breaks loose when it's discovered that not only does Dr. Kurian's vaccine not work but everyone who was injected will come under Murphy's control after an incubation period.
Near the Mexican border, the group is rescued from a zombie hoard by Escorpion, who leads them to La Reina, the "Queen of the Dead." As a bounty for Murphy, La Reina offers them a reward or a free pass to join her group.
The group becomes embroiled in corporate politics while seeking shelter at a hotel overtaken by white-collar survivors. There, Murphy is hunted.
On the quest for a cure for the virus, the group makes its way to the greenhouse where Batch 47 is being grown by Odegard. There, Odegard warns them about zombie–plant hybrids.
After finally tracking down Murphy, the group comes across a caravan of survivors transporting victims of the nuclear blast to safety. Along the way, the mission is attacked by "blasters," zombies mutated by the radioactive fallout.
Each member of the group goes through a near-death experience while being attacked by bounty hunters. Mack is bitten after being caught in a zombie-infested stairwell.
Picking up moments after the launch of the tactical nuclear weapons, the team is split up trying to outrun the impending blast. Citizen Z finds himself battling thawed zombies, ultimately issuing an on-air bounty for Murphy.
