After waking up married and quite hung-over, Gerry and Lisa do their best to face the workday. They quickly realize, however, that this ‘accidental marriage' thing is getting in the way and they set off to get an annulment as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Nisha accepts an invitation to have dinner with Simon and his mother in the hopes of mending fences. But when Angela's date shows up, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Simon, it becomes clear that Angela's acceptance of Nisha doesn't come without strings. Ms. Terdie feels redundant when she learns that Robert has ordered e-readers for the students.
Gerry is turning forty, and after finding a letter he wrote to himself ten years earlier, he becomes acutely aware of everything he has failed to accomplish. Clearly not the family man, Gerry attempts to prove that he's the other type of “awesome forty.” But when his wild night out doesn't go as planned, Gerry takes drastic measures to meet the expectations set out in his own letter. Meanwhile, Simon's ferret goes missing and Lisa wants to impress the chairman of the board of trustees by putting on an elaborate fun fair in his honour, which quickly devolves into a complete disaster.
Gerry sees dollar signs when he learns that young Hayden's father is sick, very rich, and planning to leave something to Hayden's favourite staff members. Already established as Hayden's Number One teacher, Gerry awaits his monetary gift with eager anticipation, only to discover that his ‘gift' is legal guardianship of Hayden. But Gerry's initial disappointment is quickly remedied by the financial contribution that accompanies said guardianship. Unfortunately, raising a child turns out to be a tad more expensive than Gerry had anticipated. Meanwhile, Robert becomes co-principal and takes every opportunity to ensure that all staff and students understand that he is no longer Lisa's subordinate. Nisha jumps in on some innocent student games during recess, only to injure herself and ruin everything.

Meanwhile, in an effort to get in shape and lower his stress levels, Robert gets himself a treadmill desk. Trudy explains that Robert's new attire combined with the full-body sweat and disturbing ‘workout' noises emanating from his office are unprofessional and disruptive, but her words land on deaf ears. Bobbi takes great pride in learning that she has inspired a former student to become a singer/songwriter, but she soon realizes her pride might be misplaced.

When Umma gets rid of some of Janet's things, Janet retaliates. Appa sympathizes with both sides of the dispute, but aims to work the situation to his advantage. Kimchee is on a mission to ask out his long-time crush, but has trouble navigating Jung and Shannon's conflicting dating advice.
Appa and Umma lie to get out of vacationing with their friends the Lees. But when the truth gets back to the Lees, Appa and Umma are determined to find the cause of the leak. Janet finally lands her first paid photography work. Unfortunately, it's taking her ex-boyfriend's engagement photos. Jung considers himself a master of impressions, but he soon finds it's easier to dish it out than to take it.
Kimchee's excited to host a visit from his out-of-town mom. Jung looks forward to the reunion, but doesn't realize the feeling might not be mutual. When Gerald asks Appa for a reference letter, Janet tries to salvage the situation without looking like a meddler. Appa makes an embarrassing spelling mistake on a store sign, causing Umma to take over sign duty. But Umma's English might not be as good as she thinks.
Appa and Umma discover an exciting new way to spice up their relationship, but Janet threatens to ruin their fun. Jung tries to help Kimchee prepare for his first corporate presentation as Handy's assistant manager, but Kimchee insists on doing things his own way.
Appa uses an old ping-pong table to try and relive his former glory, but the game soon threatens his already delicate relationship with Jung. Umma wants to spend more mother-daughter bonding time with Janet, but when Janet rejects her, Umma soon finds a replacement. A surprise gift basket brings workplace tension to Handy.
