'Münchner Klaviersommer' was an annual concerts series that took place from 1981 to 1998 in Munich, Germany. Although the festival's name suggests a strong focus on piano music, it featured countless famous musicians from jazz and classical music – not just pianists. In 1985, Viennese keyboardist Joe Zawinul was one of the artists appearing at this festival. Zawinul performed on a huge synthesizer outfit in this concert, recorded live at the Kongressaal in Munich, Germany.

Known outside jazz circles mainly for his film scores, French composer, arranger and pianist Michel Legrand has had a long and storied career in music. Interpreters of his compositions include jazz legends such as Sarah Vaughan, Stan Getz, and Bill Evans, as well as pop stars such as Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra. During this 1982 performance in the Belgian town of Spa, Legrand leads his orchestra through a number of original songs, including “The Summer Knows,” “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?” and “Les Moulins de mon Cœur.” Singing either in English or French, Legrand delivers a spirited performance with plenty of romantic flair that is sure to capture your heart.

Legendary Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés brought his band ‘Jazz Batá 2' to the Malta Jazz Festival on July 19, 2019. The air was thick with anticipation as Valdés took to the stage, revisiting the small-group concept of his mythical 1972 Cuban album ‘Jazz Batá'. The batá repertoire – the deep classical music of West Africa – permeates Valdés' piano solos throughout the concert. Valdés's band consists of Dreiser Durruthy (Batas and vocals), Yaroldy Abreu (percussions and vocals), Abraham Mansfarroll (percussion), Ramón Vazquez Martirena-Bajo (bass guitar). They delivered a performance that reverberated through the historic island.

The concerts were usually held in July at The Gasteig, home of the Munich Philharmonic. In 1989, American pianist Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea was one of the artists appearing here. In this concert Corea returned to his roots, performing jazz standards and originals in a stripped-down trio setting of piano, bass and drums. With Dave Weckl (drums) and John Patitucci (bass), this highly interactive trio actually had its beginnings in 1985 with Chick Corea's Elektric Band.
