Framed as a corrupt cop, Ha-eun goes on the run and discovers he has a twin brother, Shin-hyuk. After a brief reunion, tragedy strikes, forcing them apart again as danger closes in from all sides.
Detective Kyung rushes to Seoul after discovering that Ha-eun is actually Kang-hyuk, the son of his senior whom he had believed dead, but is targeted in a brutal attack by Dong-chan's group. As Ha-eun faces a sudden arrest warrant, he sets out for Gangwon Province to find a key witness who holds the truth.
Ha-eun struggles with haunting dreams and unresolved emotions as he grows closer to Eun-ha. Refusing to close the case, he finds flaws in the suspect's alibi while his partner seeks a crucial witness who may reveal the truth.
Ha-eun becomes convinced the suicide is actually a murder and uncovers ties to a powerful politician, but is ordered to stop the investigation. Meanwhile, hidden connections to a man believed dead 20 years ago begin to surface.
Seo Ha-eun, a respected detective with no memory of his early childhood, investigates a suspicious motel suicide that may be linked to a case from 20 years ago. As he tracks down a key suspect, the man reacts with shock upon seeing Ha-eun's face.
Moo Gak, Lt. Yeom and the other detectives are shocked to see the video of Jae Hee kidnapping Cho Rim. Meanwhile, Cho Rim leaves a clue when she drops her ring on the floor as Jae Hee looks away.
Inspector Kang and the other detectives ask Lt. Yeom why Moo Gak is suddenly kicked off the investigation. She says it's because he is a family member of the barcode-chain-murder victim. Meanwhile, Cho Rim is in shock after reading Dr. Chun's letter.
Lt. Yeom deliberately makes a sketch different from what Cho Rim remembers. She also discovers that Oh Jae Pyo is Cho Rim's father when running an identity check. Meanwhile, Cho Rim tells Moo Gak she senses fear when recalling her accident.
To help Cho Rim remember, Moo Gak tries to make a composite sketch of the woman's face who flashed across Cho Rim's mind. Meanwhile, Jae Hee hires a private investigator to trace Eun Seol's past.
Lt. Yeom tells a shocked Cho Rim that Moo Gak was assaulted and saw the culprit's face before falling into a coma. Jae Hee tries, but can't grasp Dr. Chun's message. To find out Moo Gak's state, Jae Hee tells Cho Rim he will go to the hospital with her.
Moo Gak finds the Frog Troupe leader after hearing he told Cho Rim, now only staff support, that she doesn't have the confidence or humor to go on stage. Cho Rim cries from humiliation and Moo Gak tells her they can do comedy and investigations together.
Worried about Cho Rim, Moo Gak asks her to stop investigating altogether. However, Cho Rim likes the fact she can use her eye for something useful and says Moo Gak can protect her if she's in danger.
Gun and Mi Young spend blissful days together, while Chief Tak and Yong try to recreate the “Macau revival” plan.
Chairwoman Wang is dumbfounded when Gun and Mi Young suddenly go missing. Mi Young's mother asks Gun to let Mi Young go, and he works hard to change her mind. Meanwhile, Se Ra becomes convinced the little girl in Daniel's photo is her.
Mi Young decides to stay by Gun's side and meets with Chairwoman Wang. Gun announces he will step down in three months, with the chairwoman filling in during his absence. Yong's mom hands Gun a mysterious diary.
Mi Young decides to leave Korea right away, but news that Gun has been alone for three years weighs on her mind. Daniel is thrown when he hears Gun has a hereditary illness, and Se Ra seeks out Mi Young again.
Gun provides wholehearted support for the collaboration, while Mi Young grows uncomfortable with his constant presence at her side. Se Ra becomes increasingly uneasy about Mi Young's return.
Chairwoman Wang sounds Mi Young out about reconciling with Gun, but Mi Young is resolute. Gun, as usual, visits Mi Young's mother's restaurant and runs into Mi Young there she asks him not to come anymore. Later, Mi Young is selected as the artist for Jangin Chemicals' ad-image collaboration project.
News about Gun and Mi Young spreads publicly, and Gun is oddly pleased. While rummaging through the house after his plan goes awry, Yong's mom discovers a suspicious set of divorce papers. Learning the marriage is a contract, Se Ra goes to see Gun again, while Mi Young ends up meeting Daniel when Gun doesn't show up to their appointment.
Mi Young develops genuine feelings for Gun, and Gun in turn starts to fall for Mi Young's new side. Se Ra asks Mi Young point-blank if she loves Gun, leaving her rattled, while Daniel feels sorry that Mi Young keeps getting the short end of the stick. Gun revises the divorce agreement he drafted with Mi Young.
