Legends of the Highway

Follow the true story of the Florida Highwaymen, 26 self-taught African American artists who forged their own path to success in the segregated 1950's and 60's. Their stories are guided by the mentorship of renowned landscape painters A.E. Backus, Alfred Hair, and Harold Newton. Their troupe captured Florida's breathtaking landscapes and sold their paintings along state highways, circumventing the traditional art world that excluded them.
