Destination Wild: Wild Chile: Episode 2

Chile is at the mercy of weather systems that have shaped the nation. In the South, strong westerlies bring rains that create rich green Valdivian forests, carpeting the neotropic ecozone. The Valdivian forests of Chile are a unique ecosystem harbouring species of a ‘land before time' – The forests of Valdivia represent the unique assemblage of ancient species, both floral and faunal, which today persist as relicts of Gondwanaland.

The Return of the Osprey

The Return of the Osprey

The Osprey is the only raptor in the world to feed exclusively on fish. This migratory bird has lived throughout central Europe for a long time, nesting there in the summer months. But the species has gradually moved to more northerly regions of the continent, far from the persecution caused by human expansion. Wendy and Denis have set launched an ambitious challenge of reintroducing the Osprey to Switzerland, a century after its disappearance.

Antelope

Antelope

For some the word ‘antelope' might not incite much interest but look closer and you'll discover a remarkably diverse group of animals, numbering nearly one hundred different species. Some are easy to miss, the little dik-dik being barely the size of a house cat, while eland weigh in at more than half a ton. There are representatives roaming plains from the Mongolian Plateau in Asia to the cape of South Africa. Wherever you find them, these remarkable animals are the unsung heroes of the plains.

Time Flies

Time Flies

We like to think we can control everything: changing the course of water, reclaiming land, replanting deserts – we constantly remodel the natural world to suit our needs. But there's one thing we can't control: the passing of time. However, we can change how we see things using cameras we can start to see the world in different time frames. Now we can see animals following the sun, mass movements of the changing seasons and even the vast impact of the changing weather. Watch what happens when time flies…
