In this episode, we spoke to intrepid explorer Benedict Allen who has nearly died nine times throughout his career - including when he was threatened by gold miners, contracted deadly malaria and was shot at by Pablo Escobar's hitmen. Benedict relives his experience of becoming the first person to cross the Amazon Basin and getting lost alone in the rainforest for weeks without food, shelter or water. This desperate situation led him to make one of the toughest decisions of his life and moulded him into the explorer we meet today.

Nick was part of a shipping crew defending his boat from Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean when a cyclone threat forced them to dock off the coast of India. After being arrested on false weapons charges, Nick and his crewmates spent four torturous years in 'hellish' conditions, facing abuse from the prisoners and prison officers.
