Only by an icebreaker can we reach the remote coasts of the Antarctic continent where Emperor Penguins defy the life-threatening environment of the vast ice desert at the end of the world.

The film follows the water against the stream. It starts at the river's delta in the Netherlands, flows through six countries and ends in the Swiss Alps.

The light of the Balearic island of Ibiza is magical and its trademark: The "Island of Light" is tiny compared to its sister island Mallorca, but offers the most beautiful sunsets in the world. That's what they say. They attract sun worshippers and party people from near and far. To the sounds of the famous "Balearic Sound" they turn night into day. This documentary documents the island in the balancing act between luxury yachts and traditions. Hippie culture, celebrities, pine forests, bays with turquoise water and villages with bright white houses: Ibiza has many faces. Mora (80) and Djin (67) have been drawn to the island for 55 years. They are the uncrowned kings of the hippies. But only love, light, air and laziness, these times are also long gone on Ibiza. Mora knits sexy jerseys for young hippies from morning till night. Djin helps her sell at the famous Las Dalias hippie market and works as a construction worker: chilling and no pension in sight. The virgin Carmen is the patron saint of the sailors. On her day of honour, a mass is celebrated in the port city of Eivissa. Afterwards, fishermen carry the Virgin through the narrow streets of Ibiza City down to the quay. And then Carmen sets sail. Several places on Ibiza claim to offer the most beautiful sunset in the world: In front of Cala de Benirrás, the sun sinks right next to the iconic rock Cap Benat, which the locals awefully call "God's Finger". The typical soft beats over the sea sound from almost all the bays and provide deep relaxation worldwide under the term "Balearic Sound". Some of the famous DJs are jetting around the globe for huge fees. But in the small beach bars, the Chiringuitos, the island sound is celebrated further. On the beach of Cala Salada the Brit Joe Burnley has the command over a troop of mermaids. The ladies squeeze into the tight mermaid costume for the good cause. With great grace they swim towards yachts that are forbidden to anchor on sea grass meadows. Charming but unyielding, they point out the offence to the captain and crew a creative environmental action to save the endangered Neptune gas, green lung of the sea and habitat for Ibiza's seahorses. The underwater photographer Manu San Felix is also committed to the endangered seahorses. Using a probe, he maps the coastal area around Ibiza and feeds the data into a GPS app. No skipper should be able to say that he didn't even know that his anchor was clawing into Neptune grass. On land, Manu is dedicated to breeding seahorses. His plan: He wants to expose the animals in the Mediterranean to Ibiza and Formentera in order to secure their population. Garages on the beach? Many bays on the island still have Casetas Varadero, boat garages threatened with decay. Fishermen once built them illegally. The picturesque sheds are therefore only tolerated, but may no longer be restored. The 83-year-old Toni Salvado still drives straight out to sea from his garage. He fishes for his own needs and a few friends, he is not allowed to sell his catch.

Not nearly as crowded as Majorca or Ibiza: Menorca has noticeably fewer visitors than her sister islands and in 1993, was recognised by UNESCO as a biosphere re-serve. Menorca also has its own distinctive charm, with its secluded coves, mighty cliffs, beautiful gardens and ages old towns and villages. Its residents love the is-lands treasures and peculiarities. Forests make up al-most a third of Menorca, complemented by many lush green meadows. Next to tourism, agriculture is a major source of the island's income to the present day. On Menorca, there are several accumulations of enormous megalithic stones. From a global point of view, the up to five-metre-tall "Taulas", whereby the stones are ar-ranged in the shape of a "T", are unique.

In Poland carp are fished from the ponds to provide everybody with carp for Christmas dinner - this is an old Polish tradition. In Frisia winter is driven out by fires at what is known as "Biikebrennen", and in Hungary the "Busho" - frightening characters wearing wooden masks - do a similar job. "Four seasons - Many traditions" is a journey, meeting people who are passionate at keeping old traditions alive.

All birds of prey sustain themselves through hunting, and they do so elegantly and, it seems, with effortless beauty and efficiency. This is one of many reasons why they are much admired, even romanticised, by many cultures. The Last Paradises: Breath of the Arctic

This foray through northern realms of our planet above the polar circle takes us to a part of our world especially affected by climate change. The often-cited adaptability of animals could also enable them to survive under new conditions. The camera team made this foray through the polar region, from Canada to Norway, to document that, which in the opinion of many nature researchers, will no longer be visible in 30 to 50 years' time. Following the observation of ice bear mother with her young in Canada's Wapusk National Park at Hudson Bay, is a herd of harp seals on the ice during the breeding season. The Arctic Ocean ringed seals in Hudson Bay, on the other hand, prefer solitude. Should the offspring be born in an extremely cold night, they often freeze to death. The archipelago consists of seven main islands - Giglio, Elba, Gianutri, Capraia, Pianisoa, Gorgona and Montecristo - and other smaller islands and rocks. Not all of them are inhabited. We look at the three most extraordinary islands of the archipelago: Elba, Capraia and the island of Montecristo. The Tuscan Archipelago is one of the most important natural wonders of the world and is protected as Parco Nazionale dell'Arcipelago Toscano. With its 61.474 hectares of protected and 17,694 hectares of protected land area, it is the largest marine protected area in in Europe. Capraia is the third largest island of the archipelago and is located with its small harbor in the channel in front of Corsica. The island is an autonomous municipality with about 300 inhabitants. It is also considered the most maritime island of the archipelago. At the end of the eighties, the penal colony on Capraia was closed was closed and the island opened to tourism. (S1 E03)

Lake Iseo is located on the southern foothills of the Alps. It extends over the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo in the northern mainland of Italy. In the middle of Lake Iseo lies the largest island of the southern European inland waters. Monte Isola, as the island is called after its central mountain lies close to its two neighboring islands, Isola di San Paolo and Isola di Loreto. As early as the 11th century, a monastic association of Benedictines settled here. For many Italians, Lake Iseo is the most beautiful spot in their homeland. It is all the more astonishing how little the influence of tourism is here. Driving is strictly forbidden on the three islands, and only on Monte Isola. Only on Monte Isola there is a regular bus service in the summertime. Thus, the three islands are an oasis of an oasis of tranquility most of the year. The historical buildings and the nature remind of the long tradition in which the Italians have cultivated this retreat. Only every five years in the autumn a big celebration takes place. Then over 200,000 paper flowers decorate the island. The flowers are reminiscent of the time in the Middle Ages when a Roma woman brought her son to the island to be cured from the from the rampant plague. In gratitude, she donated a sea of flowers. The Festa di Santa Croce has been one of the main attractions in northern Italy ever since. The days are radiant with color, it is the only time when it gets crowded in the small streets of the island villages. The next festival was celebrated in September 2021. (S1 E02)

With the aid of modern technology, reveal the unknown behaviour of some unusual species of shark: lemon sharks and their white-tip reef counterparts. Our film trip begins on the Bahamas. To be more precise: in the turquoise-blue waters of the Grand Bahama Bank, in an exactly fixed location. In the spring, 70 – 80 pregnant lemon sharks arrive here. This huge shark population was first discovered just a few years ago by shark researcher, Professor Sam Gruber. Many of the females are tired and rest on the seabed. Pregnant tiger sharks swim in the midst of this group. Without any protection whatsoever, our cameramen shoot their footage, surrounded by sharks and succeed in capturing images hitherto unseen. We continue our journey to Gainesville, Florida, to meet Gordon Hubbell, the leading shark denture expert with the world's largest shark denture collection. He knows everything about the evolutionary history of the lemon sharks, in addition to those of the white-tip reef variety off Cocos Island, Costa Rica. Here, we encounter large schools of fish, unprecedented numbers of stingrays, as well as hammerhead sharks. However, it is the white-tip reek sharks that make the biggest impression. Their performance begins late at night. Marauding, they patrol in large groups through the reefs and hunt everything that moves. Scales and dead prey fish float above the reef – a welcoming change of diet for the ubiquitous barracudas.

They are killers. They kill with unbelievable precision. They fight Kung Fu style and are seen in Japan as a symbol of vigilance - the mantises. Their triangular head with its unique flexibility is conspicuous. Two overdimensioned eyes fixate the distance to their prey rapidly and three-dimensionally. The chest segment of the mantis is prolonged and equipped with spiny appendages that can spear their prey as fast as a jack knife. The mysterious aura that surrounds the praying mantis has a lot to do with the fact that they are rarely seen. They have adapted to their surroundings perfectly. No matter whether leaves, blossoms, tree bark, sandy floors or even orchids - the mantis adjusts to all environments.

We are on their trail in Cape Breton, an island in the northern Atlantic and part of the Canadian province Nova Scotia, where one of the largest populations of lobsters has its home.
