Ballet of the Mariinsky Theatre

The Mariinsky Ballet performs 'Anna Karenina', a sweeping two-act ballet choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky. The ballet is based on Lev Tolstoy's 1877 novel that tells the tragic story of the married socialite Anna Karenina and her affair with cavalry officer Count Vronsky. The ballet opens where the novel ends: tormented by despair and loneliness, Anna throws herself under a train, whereupon Count Vronsky discovers his lover's lifeless body. Ratmansky's choreography is set to Rodion Shchedrin's music, which is performed by the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. Among the dancers are Ulyana Lopatkina, Victor Baranov, Andrei Yermakov, and Svetlana Ivanova. This performance was recorded at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, in March 2014.

The soloists from the Lucerne Festival Orchestra present two septets in this engaging 2020 concert, recorded at Lucerne Culture and Congress Center (KKL), Switzerland. It opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Divertimento No. 11 in D major, K. 251, known as the ‘Nannerl-Septet'. The program continues with Ludwig van Beethoven's Septet in E-flat major, Op. 20, which is scored for clarinet, horn, bassoon, violin, viola, cello and double bass. This 1799 piece achieved great popularity during Beethoven's lifetime. It was arranged for many various instrumental ensembles, including versions for two guitars, and piano four-hands, but also a trio for clarinet (or violin), cello, and piano, arranged by Beethoven himself.

Royal Opera Orchestra & Andres Gabetta

We all know "The Four Seasons of Vivaldi", it is one of the "hits" of classical music. What if the Antonio Vivaldi's famous Four Seasons had been preceded by those of Giovanni Antonio Guido, star violinist of Parisian orchestras of the maturity of Louis XIV? The two works are finally presented in the same program in spite of their differences: the well-known virtuosity of Vivaldi's work contrasts with the mixture of French good taste and Italian features of Guido's Seasons. It is also the first time that the version with strings and winds is filmed. For this exciting confrontation, the Royal Opera Orchestra will be conducted by the virtuoso Andrès Gabetta, from his 1727 Venetian Pietro Guarneri violin, an exact contemporary of these Eight Seasons!
