Captain Matt Hendricks and Dr. Linda Christian are locked in a submarine with Russian terrorists that threaten to launch a chemical virus on US territory.
On their way home from China, married Christian missionaries Roy (Woody Harrelson) and Jessie (Emily Mortimer) take a train from Beijing to Moscow. Kristoff tells his disappointed wife, son and daughter that he's taking a business trip. They decide to sneak aboard the train as a surprise, only to suspect he's having an affair with the mysterious Galina. To make matters much worse, terrorists hijack the train and go after the virus.

The survivor of an Alaskan avalanche, Dr. Lia Freeman (Caroleen Feeney) is an environmentalist concerned about a similar disaster occurring if a proposed new oil pipeline is built. Freeman adamantly warns the planners of the likelihood of a major avalanche, but they ignore her pleas. As she realizes that a massive whiteout is imminent, Freeman tries to get the citizens of a nearby town to leave, aided by brave helicopter pilot Neal Meekin (Thomas Ian Griffith).
