With the Bunwon seized by Japanese forces, Jeongi attempts to slip away to meet Gwanghae but is captured by Gangcheon. After learning the full truth from Mun Saseung, Yukdo agonizes over his choice—then ultimately releases Jeongi. Trusting that Gwanghae will drive the invaders away, Jeongi returns to the Bunwon and waits for his promise to be fulfilled.
Tailing Hwa-ryeong's men from the merchant guild, Taedo discovers the kiln where Jeongi is being held. Seizing a brief opening as soldiers pass by, he rescues Jeongi and flees with her—only to be struck by a throwing blade. Face to face with Gangcheon, Jeongi unleashes her fury, declaring that she can never forgive him for being her father. Steeling her resolve, Jeongi immerses herself in the potter's wheel and presents the finished vessel to King Seonjo.
As Jeongi and Yukdo face off in a decisive competition, all eyes at the Bunwon are fixed on the outcome. Thrilled at the prospect of becoming nangcheong, Yukdo is confident of victory. Jeongi asks Hwa-ryeong to procure the white clay needed for the contest, while Hwa-ryeong urges Yukdo to defeat Jeongi at all costs. When the medicine bowls are completed, Jeongi and Yukdo anxiously await Prince Shinseong's judgment—until the prince suddenly collapses after drinking from the bowl.
Leaving her audience with Inbin, Jeongi runs into Gangcheon and Yukdo at the palace. When King Seonjo refers to Euldam as a traitor, Jeongi is left on edge. Together with Taedo, she devises a plan to ensnare Gangcheon. Later, Gwanghae returns the bowl Jeongi once gave to Son Haengsu. Impressed by Jeongi's skill, Inbin requests that if Jeongi crafts a medicine bowl that fully satisfies Prince Shinseong, she be officially appointed a master potter.
After uncovering the full truth, Jeongi begins searching for a way to bring about Gangcheon's downfall, with Taedo pledging to help her. When Jeongi and Gwanghae cross paths at the Bunwon, they share a tender, wordless gaze filled with longing. Upon discovering a ledger detailing Gangcheon's bribes, Jeongi resolves to win Royal Consort Inbin's favor. Meanwhile, Hwa-ryeong decides to eliminate Son Haengsu.
Upon returning to the palace, Gwanghae insists that the letter King Seonjo presents to him has been forged—but the king refuses to believe it. Jeongi is shaken when Imhae warns her that anyone tied to the alleged treason will not escape unscathed. When Jeongi meets Gwanghae, she vows to restrain even her own feelings so as not to become a burden to him. Court Lady Gukbi is stunned to learn that Jeongi is Yeonok's daughter.
When King Seonjo selects Yukdo's lid, Yukdo struggles to contain his joy, while Jeongi graciously acknowledges his skill. Gwanghae petitions the king to lift the Chief Scholar's exile, but Seonjo misinterprets the request as a threat to royal authority. Seizing the moment, Inbin plots to frame Gwanghae for treason by forging his letter. As Jeongi departs on Gangcheon's errand to mine white clay, Gwanghae mounts his horse and races after her.
Despite Taedo's warnings that it is dangerous, Jeongi insists she must remain at the Bunwon to bring Gangcheon down from his nangcheong post. Reunited with Jeongi at the workshop, Gwanghae cannot hide his quiet delight. Meanwhile, Yukdo grows uneasy when he is forced to compete with Jeongi to create the lid for King Seonjo's cherished jar. He promises Jeongi that if she succeeds, he will elevate her to the rank of master potter.
As Jeongi explains the shape of a wine cup, Gwanghae finds his gaze drawn to her lips and abruptly excuses himself, flustered by his own reaction. Later, Gangcheon is stunned to discover Euldam's pottery at the merchant guild and asks Hwa-ryeong whether Jeongi is truly Euldam's daughter. Taedo quietly observes Jeongi and Gwanghae sitting side by side before the kiln. On the day of the Giroyeon banquet, Jeongi grows increasingly anxious when the vessels fail to arrive at the hall.
Unable to bring herself to shatter Euldam's vessel, Jeongi trembles before Gangcheon until Gwanghae arrives to intervene. Determined to prove himself superior to Mun Saseung, Yukdo demands a chance from Gangcheon. Jeongi agrees to assist Mun Saseung in crafting the ceremonial vessels for the Giroyeon banquet. Watching Gwanghae's special concern for Jeongi, Taedo questions why she matters to him so deeply.
