Ben Harper and Relentless7

Ben Harper and Relentless7

The California native is a natural born showman, a slide-guitar legend whose ability to dabble in (and pull off) everything from folk blues to country jazz and reggae has earned Harper legions of fans the world over. So when we were given the opportunity to film Ben Harper accompanied by the blues-driven Texas trio Relentless7 at the Metro in Sydney, needless to say we were a little bit excited. And it may have been filmed in 2009, but this show was such a stand out favorite of ours there was no question that it was set to become one of our Classic Concerts someday.

Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash was one of the most influential figures in American music in the post war period. He managed to combine elements of folk, rock 'n' roll and country, which together with his distinctive voice and guitar style, created an instantly recognisable sound. 1994 was to prove to be Cash's only appearance at the Montreux Festival. The "Man In Black" had just released his acclaimed American Recordings album and his European tour took in Montreux on July 5. This classic concert features a number of tracks from his new album coupled with favourites from across his career including Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, Ghost Riders In The Sky, Orange Blossom Special and San Quentin. An added bonus is the guest appearance of his wife June Carter Cash on two tracks. Caught at one of the high points of his distinguished career this is truly Johnny Cash at his best.

The Everly Brothers

The Everly Brothers

When asked recently for the most memorable moment of his career, Phil Everly replied 'the Albert Hall reunion'. It was September 1983, and ten years on from one of the most acrimonious splits in popular music history, when the Everly Brothers, Don and Phil, took to the stage at London's Royal Albert Hall. The Everlys had dominated the charts in the late fifties and early to mid sixties. Their close harmony singing, acoustic guitars and brilliant songwriting had become instantly recognisable and inspired millions of fans worldwide. On an emotional night in London, the reunion was a success and led to the renewal of their partnership and many more years of success, which continue to this day. Bonus Features: 'Rock 'n' Roll Odyssey' - this documentary, made at the same time as the Albert Hall reunion, tells the complete story of the Everly Brothers up to that point in time. Don and Phil tell their story with additional contributions from Linda Ronstadt, Chet Atkins and many more.
