A drug operation changes the lives of three conflicted New York cops. Burned-out vet Eddie Dugan is close to retirement; narcotics cop Sal Procida faces the difficult task of caring for his large family on his ordinary salary. Undercover officer Clarence Tango Butler finds his loyalties beginning to shift toward a powerful drug dealer. Over seven chaotic days, the three men are drawn toward a fateful crime and destiny.
Four friends enter the drug trade in Boston in the late 1970s: Tristan (Allen Payne), Money (Aaron D. Spears), E-Bone and Simon. With the consent of a South End crime boss, Benny (Clarence Williams III), they quickly rise in the drug game, while the leader of the group, Tristan, keeps his double life a secret from his clueless parents. However, as the 1970s pass to the 2000s, a police investigation threatens to ignite a violent feud among the tight-knit friends.
Freddy (Shemar Moore) is a big-shot music industry executive, whose cousin, Blusette (Salli Richardson), is a successful and well-known singer managed by 8-Ball Harris (Ernie Hudson). Blusette soon realizes, however, that 8-Ball is a small-time crook, hoping to use her and her renown to benefit his various schemes. Blusette tells him to take a hike, and she turns up dead a short while later. Freddy then tries to uncover the truth about Blusette, while 8-Ball works to frame him.
Inner-city Miami schoolteacher Jane Hetzko gets her knee broken when she stands up to the school's gang leader, Juan Lacas. Her boyfriend, mercenary combat specialist Jonathan Shale, goes undercover as a substitute teacher to take down the punk, but soon discovers that Lacas is merely an underling for the real criminal mastermind. Assembling the team from his last jungle raid, led by his right-hand man, Joey Six, Shale declares war.

A case of mistaken identity puts a man named Slevin (Josh Hartnett) in the middle of a war between two rival New York crime lords: The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley) and the Boss (Morgan Freeman).
