在冷戰白熱化時期，在社交圈聲名不佳的華德喜歡上年輕天真的歌舞女郎莉絲，並决定將她塑造成耀眼而世故的名媛；不久後莉絲便成為蘇俄海軍隨員尤金伊瓦諾夫，及英國國防部長普佛墨的親密朋友，當這樁秘密韻事被媒體揭露後，所有相關人物都不得善終普佛墨辭職、莉絲入獄、伊瓦諾夫被遣返、而華德也因仲介賣淫的罪名遭到起訴。 本片是根據1963年發生在英國政治圈內，著名的〃普佛墨醜聞〃所改編。導演邁克爾.卡頓.鐘斯（Michael Caton-Jones）另有「英烈的歲月」、「赤膽豪情」等作品，布裏奇特.方達（Bridget Fonda，「黑色終結令」）在片中還裝出英國腔參與演出，此外〃年輕食人族FYC〃的主唱羅奈爾得.弗雷澤也在片中軋了一角。
