Неудачные испытания ракеты, изготовленной заводом Рейналя, переполнили чашу терпения кредиторов и поставщиков. Банк отказывается продолжать финансирование научных исследований Альбера Рейналя, пока его завод не будет хотя бы частично перепрофилирован на выпуск более стабильной продукции — бытовой техники и скобяного товара. Не желая превращаться в фабриканта ширпотреба, Рейналь надеется получить поддержку у близких некогда людей — у бывшего одноклассника, бывшей любовницы, бывшего однополчанина… Однако руку помощи Альберу протягивает человек, на которого он и не рассчитывал…
