Алоизиус МакКивер - бездомный бродяга, любящий роскошь, проводит эимы в дорогих особняках, пустующих в это время года. Этой зимой он облюбовал дом миллиардера Майкла О'Коннора на Пятой Авеню. Однажды он встречает бездомного ветерана Второй мировой войны Джима Баллока и предлагает ему «свой» кров. Вскоре к ним присоединяется 18-летняя Труди Смит, которая якобы сбежала от отца-деспота.
