Фильм рассказывает о печальной судьбе исследователя-любителя Тимоти Тредвелла, посвятившего себя изучению повадок самого свирепого медведя на планете — гризли. Жизнь Тредвелла оборвалась в октябре 2003 года на Аляске. Огромный медведь разорвал исследователя и его подругу во время очередного путешествия. На протяжении картины друзья и коллеги Тимоти пытаются понять причины его необыкновенного увлечения и ответить, что заставляет современного человека отказаться от благ цивилизации в пользу дружбы с гигантским медведем.
