드라마역사
1870년, 나폴레옹 3세가 프로이센과의 전쟁에서 패배한다. 파리에서는 제3공화정이 수립되고 국민방위군을 결성해 프로이센의 포위에 저항하지만, 오래지 않아 결국 항복을 결정한다. 이때 ‘새로운 바빌론’이라는 이름의 백화점 점원 루이즈는 국민방위군 병사인 장을 만나 사랑에 빠진다.
