시리아의 IS에 합류할 계획을 세운 포스틴은 남편 실뱅이 눈치채지 못하는 사이에 다섯 살짜리 아들을 데리고 파리를 떠난다. 하지만 시리아 라카에 도착하고 얼마 지나지 않아 자신이 제 발로 찾아온 그곳이 지옥이라는 것을 깨닫는다. 자국민을 도울 수 있는 여력이 없는 프랑스 당국에 실망한 실뱅은 직접 아내와 아들을 구하기 위해 친구들과 함께 위험천만한 구출 작전을 감행한다. 실화를 기반으로 하는 작품이다.
