2백 년 전, 일본에 마케도와 다케다라는 두 사무라이 집단이 있었다. 이 두 세력은 한 쪽이 멸망할 때까지 서로를 죽여왔고, 이들 사이의 힘겨루기는 후대까지 지속적으로 이어져 내려온다. 출장 때문에 일본을 방문한 라씬은 호텔 바에서 신비한 동양 여인을 만나 하룻밤을 보낸다. 그 정열이 채 가시기도 전에 라씬은 보지 말아야 할 것을 보아 버린다. 검은 복면을 하고 검은 옷을 입은 사무라이들이 긴 일본도로 여인의 목을 내려쳐 버린 것이다. 사무라이 중 복면을 하지 않은 킨죠는 자신의 얼굴을 본 라씬을 내려치곤 달아난다.
