프로 킬러인 제프 코스텔로는 자신만의 법칙을 엄격히 지키며 살고 있으며 의뢰받은 임무에서 실패한 적이 단 한 번도 없다. 그러나 완벽한 알리바이를 꾸며 실행한 나이트클럽 사장 살해 이후, 그는 경찰에 일급용의자로 체포된다. 여자친구의 알리바이 입증으로 경찰에서 풀려나오지만 경찰은 그의 유죄를 확신하고 그의 뒤를 밟는다. 한편 제프가 체포되도록 손을 쓴 고용주들이 그를 살해하기 위해 총잡이를 보낸다. 제프는 이제 경찰과 킬러, 양쪽의 위협에서 자신을 지켜야하는 상황에 부딪히게 된다.
