어린 시절부터 절친인 데이브와 미치. 데이브는 유능한 변호사이자 세 아이의 자상한 아빠로 성공한 삶을 살아가고 있고, 아마추어 포르노 배우이자 쾌락주의자인 미치는 자유분방한 싱글 라이프를 즐긴다. 어느 날 밤, 데이브와 미치는 술에 취해 소원을 들어준다는 분수대에 노상방뇨하며 “나는 너처럼 살고 싶어”라고 서로를 향해 외친다. 다음날 그들은 인생이 송두리째 바뀐 채 잠에서 깨어난다. 둘은 분수대로 다시 가 보지만 이미 철거되고, 분수대를 찾아 이 사태를 되돌리기 위해 시청에 찾아간다.
