알버트(Albert: 크리스 록 분)와 유리페테스(Euripides: 알렌 페인 분), 그리고 오티스(Otis: 디저 디 분)는 캘리포니아주 로캐쉬 시의 젊은이들이다. 이들은 클럽 거스토스의 오픈무대에서 소외된 흑인사회의 고통을 담은 랩송을 부르며 스타의 꿈을 키워가고 있다. 그러던 어느날 클럽 소유주이자 로캐쉬의 명물인 거스토(Gusto: 찰스 Q. 머피 분)가 마약 밀매 혐의로 경찰에 입건되고, 그는 유연히 체포 현장에서 있었던 알버트를 경찰의 끄나풀로 오해한다. 그러나 정작 알버트는 거스토를 연호하는 군중들의 반은에 아이디어를 얻어 그의 터프한 이미지를 흉내낸 랩그룹을 결성하고 거스트가 실제 수감중인 교도소명을 따 지은 CB 4라는 그룹명으로 데뷔무대를 갖는다. 여성을 모독하고, 폭력을 찬양하는 등 입에 담기조차 저속한 가사의 랩을 부르자 그들은 급속도로 인기스타 대열에 들어서게 되고 복역중 이사실을 알게 된 거스토는 복수를 위해 탈옥을 시도하는데...
