1973年、スウェーデンの首都ストックホルム。何をやっても上手くいかない男ラースは思い余って銀行強盗を決断して、銃を手に銀行に押し入る。彼は幼い娘を持つ行員のビアンカら3人を人質に取り、警察との交渉で犯罪仲間のグンナーを刑務所から釈放させることに成功する。続いて金と逃走用の車を要求するラースに対し、警察は彼らを銀行の中に閉じ込める作戦に出るが、思わぬ事態に直面する。
