男性の同性愛を禁じる刑法175条が施行されていた、第2次世界大戦後のドイツ。ハンスは自身の性的指向を理由に投獄され、殺人犯ヴィクトールと同じ房になる。ヴィクトールは175条違反者のハンスを嫌悪するが、腕に掘られた番号から、彼がナチスの強制収容所からこの刑務所に送られてきたことを知る。何度懲罰房に入れられても己の信念を曲げないハンスと、刑務所内の振る舞いを熟知するヴィクトールの間に、次第に深い絆が生まれていく。
