Claudia Larson voit arriver avec une forte appréhension Thanksgiving, fêté par des millions d'Américains. Son licenciement, sa fille qui décide de se faire déflorer dans les quarante-huit heures ne font que cristalliser un peu plus son angoisse des fêtes familiales. Pour affronter cette réunion et sa famille, Claudia lance un SOS à son frère Tommy, qui doit la rejoindre à Baltimore chez leurs parents. Mais ce qui s'annonce comme une corvée apportera finalement à Claudia une délivrance inespérée.
