Amanda Shelton tient un sympathique restaurant hérité de sa défunte mère. Si ses talents culinaires laissent à désirer, elle se rattrape par un charme irresistible et une délicieuse propension à dire ce qu'elle pense. Un jour Tom Bartlett, responsable exécutif d'un grand magasin chic, emmène déjeuner chez Amanda la précieuse ridicule qui est sa fiancée.
