Un riche industriel américain, mort accidentellement à San-Francisco, lègue sa fortune et son pouvoir à son neveu, Guido, modeste garagiste en Italie. Une seule condition à ce legs : en prendre possession dans les 10 jours, sinon l'argent reviendrait aux collaborateurs de l'entreprise. Ceux-ci vont tout faire pour retarder l'arrivée de Guido.
