Bridge of Spies
En 1960, James B. Donovan, un avocat new-yorkais spécialisé dans les assurances, doit défendre Rudolf Abel, un espion russe que la CIA vient d'arrêter. D'abord surpris qu'on le choisisse, il a à coeur de le défendre tandis que son épouse ne voit que les ennuis que cela peut causer à leurs familles. Homme de loi habile, il parvient, en imaginant l'idée d'un possible échange de prisonniers dans le futur, à faire commuer la peine de mort de son client en prison à vie. Ce qui lui vaut la vindicte populaire... Mais Donovan est ensuite recruté par la CIA. Il a pour mission de négocier la libération de Francis Gary Powers, le pilote de l'avion espion américain U-2, que les Soviétiques ont abattu au-dessus de leur territoire. Il se retrouve plongé en pleine guerre froide...
