Récemment divorcé, Greg, dont la vie va à vau-l'eau, rencontre la délicieuse Isabel, une femme vivant dans la rue, convaincue que le monde, brisé et pollué autour d'eux, n'est pas réel. Elle est persuadée qu'ils vivent dans une simulation, laide et rude, à l'intérieur d'un autre vrai monde, beau et en paix. D'abord sceptique, Greg finit par découvrir qu'il y a peut-être une part de vrai dans la théorie du complot d'Isabel.
