Berlin 1938. Alors qu'Hitler s'apprête à annexer l'Autriche, Louise, épouse de l'ambitieux diplomate Heinz Von Hollendorf, fait la connaissance, au cours de dessin de l'institut des Beaux-Arts, de la fille de l'ambassadeur du Japon, la belle Mitsuko. Bientôt l'amitié entre les deux femmes se transforme en amour passionné.
