Summary

In the fantastical land of Oz, Elphaba Thropp is a brilliant, strong-willed young woman whose green skin makes her an object of suspicion and ridicule. Sent to Shiz University to help care for her younger sister, Nessarose, she finds herself sharing a room with Glinda Upland, a glamorous, ambitious student from a privileged background. Their personalities could hardly be more different: Elphaba is outspoken, principled, and deeply skeptical of social convention, while Glinda is charming, image-conscious, and determined to win the admiration of everyone around her. At first, their relationship is defined by rivalry and mutual irritation. Yet circumstances gradually draw them together, and an unexpected friendship begins to form.
