Summary

Under the Bridge (2022) is a darkly comic, surreal drama about a wealthy couple returning home after a party. Along the way, they encounter a female employee dressed in a deliberately primitive or “savage” costume, and they invite her to complete their role-playing fantasy by howling at the moon. When she refuses to perform for them, their seemingly harmless game takes an increasingly strange and disturbing turn. At the center of the film are the privileged couple, whose casual demands reveal their sense of entitlement, and the employee, whose refusal challenges the social script they expect everyone around them to follow. What begins as an awkward encounter gradually becomes an absurd confrontation in which the boundaries between play and cruelty, performance and reality, begin to dissolve. The film uses its eccentric premise to expose the fragility of the couple’s authority and the tensions beneath their polished, upper-class lifestyle. With its blend of black humor, social satire, and unsettling fantasy, Under the Bridge examines class division, exploitation, obedience, and the ways power is maintained through humiliation and performance. It also questions who is truly in control when people treat other human beings as props in their private games. Rather than offering a conventional thriller, the film develops as a provocative, unpredictable fable about rebellion and the collapse of an established social order.
