Edina, a female bodybuilder, is ready to sacrifice everything for the dream she shares with Adam, her partner and trainer: to win the Miss Olympia competition. The odd love she finds on her way there makes her see the difference between her dreams and her true self.

Summary

Gentle follows Edina, a fiercely disciplined Hungarian bodybuilder determined to reach the highest level of her sport. Alongside Adam, her partner and demanding trainer, she devotes nearly every aspect of her life to preparing for the Miss Olympia competition. Their relationship is built around a shared ambition, but it is also shaped by strict routines, physical sacrifice, financial pressure, and the relentless pursuit of an ideal body. As Edina’s training intensifies, she encounters an unexpected form of affection that exists outside the tightly controlled world she has built with Adam. This connection gradually unsettles her understanding of love, loyalty, and fulfillment, forcing her to question whether the dream she is pursuing truly belongs to her or has become inseparable from Adam’s expectations and the culture of competitive bodybuilding. The film presents Edina as both remarkably strong and deeply vulnerable, while Adam is portrayed as more than a simple antagonist: he is her partner, coach, and fellow believer in a difficult dream, even as his influence becomes increasingly complicated. Their bond is central to the story, with the sport functioning as both a shared language and a source of control. Quiet, intimate, and physically immersive, Gentle explores body image, self-determination, obsession, and the cost of reshaping oneself to meet an external standard of perfection. Rather than treating bodybuilding as mere spectacle, the film examines the emotional and psychological labor behind the sculpted body, asking whether strength can be measured only by endurance and achievement. At its core, it is a sensitive drama about recognizing the difference between the person one has trained oneself to become and the self one may actually want to be.
