Summary

Set in Finnish Lapland in 1944, near the end of World War II, Sisu follows Aatami Korpi, a solitary former soldier who has withdrawn from the violence of war and lives quietly in the wilderness. While prospecting, he discovers a rich deposit of gold and sets out to transport his hard-won fortune to the nearest city. His journey soon brings him into the path of a retreating German unit commanded by the ruthless SS officer Bruno Helldorf, who seizes the gold and assumes that the unassuming prospector will be easy to eliminate. Instead, Aatami proves to be a nearly unstoppable force.
