Summary
Swim (2022) follows two swimmers who meet during regular weekly sessions and gradually form a close friendship. What begins as a shared routine in the pool develops into a meaningful connection, as the pair find comfort and companionship in one another. Their relationship, however, is not limited to the water: once their lives intersect outside the pool and aspects of their true identities come to light, the trust between them is put under pressure. The film uses swimming as both a setting and a metaphor for intimacy, distance, and vulnerability. The pool offers the characters a controlled space where they can connect, while the world beyond it introduces complications they cannot easily keep at arm’s length. At its center, Swim is a restrained drama about friendship, the assumptions people make about one another, and the difficulty of sustaining trust when hidden parts of a person’s life emerge. Its focus remains on the emotional tension between closeness and self-protection, rather than on plot mechanics or spectacle.
