Summary

Sut Putih (2023) is a three-part drama anthology centered on couples confronting difficult health issues and the emotional strain those problems place on their marriages. Each episode explores a different form of vulnerability, linking intimate medical concerns with questions of family expectations, pride, trust, and communication. In the first story, Fauziah is determined to give her husband a child, even though her advanced age makes pregnancy a serious health risk. Her desire for motherhood and her commitment to her marriage lead her into a deeply personal struggle, as hope and social expectations collide with the realities of her physical condition. The second episode follows Fariz, an enthusiastic badminton player whose arm suffers a ligament injury during a competition. While Dr. Syafiq advises him about proper medical care, Fariz’s wife, Marliya, places her faith in traditional treatment and insists that he undergoes a massage. Their disagreement becomes more than a dispute over treatment, revealing the tension that can arise when personal beliefs and professional medical advice point in different directions. The final story focuses on Rama, who is coping with erectile dysfunction. Pressured by his wife to consult a doctor, he resists, exposing the embarrassment, denial, and wounded pride that can surround men’s health issues. His reluctance highlights how silence and shame can make it harder for couples to address problems openly. Taken together, the stories present health as both a physical and emotional challenge. Sut Putih examines the pressures placed on marriage, the risks of allowing pride or outside expectations to guide personal decisions, and the importance of empathy when confronting subjects that are difficult to discuss. Its interconnected concerns about family, masculinity, reproductive health, and the balance between traditional beliefs and modern medicine give the film an earnest, socially aware tone without reducing its characters to their diagnoses.
