A police officer uncovers a conspiracy based around state-sanctioned violence against victimized villagers.

Summary

Narivetta is a politically charged Malayalam drama set against the unrest surrounding a marginalized tribal community’s struggle for land, dignity, and justice. The story follows Varghese, a police officer whose work places him on the front line of a confrontation between vulnerable villagers and a state apparatus determined to protect its authority. What begins as an official assignment gradually exposes him to the human cost of policies enforced through intimidation, displacement, and violence. Tovino Thomas plays Varghese as an essentially ordinary man caught between institutional loyalty and his growing awareness that the people he has been ordered to control are victims rather than threats. Around him are fellow police officers shaped by rank and duty, senior officials invested in preserving the official version of events, and villagers and activists resisting the loss of their homes and rights. Suraj Venjaramoodu and the supporting cast help give the conflict a broader social dimension, while the film’s ensemble reflects the different pressures bearing down on Varghese. Directed by Anuraj Manohar, Narivetta combines the atmosphere of a police drama with the urgency of a social and political indictment. Its central themes include state-sanctioned violence, the abuse of power, institutional complicity, and the moral compromises demanded by authority. It also considers how the truth can be suppressed when official narratives are used to erase the experiences of oppressed communities. Rather than presenting its protagonist as a conventional action hero, the film focuses on his uneasy moral awakening and the difficult question of whether personal conscience can survive inside a corrupt system. Tense, somber, and rooted in contemporary social realities, Narivetta is ultimately a drama about resistance, accountability, and the human consequences of treating citizens as obstacles to be removed.
