Knucks
Bad girls have all the fun.
Two women attempt to come up after beating their drug dealer to death.
Summary
Knucks (2021) is a gritty crime drama about two women who see a dangerous opportunity after beating their drug dealer to death. Faced with limited prospects and the immediate threat of being exposed, they attempt to take control of the dealer’s operation and use the money and drugs to change their circumstances. What begins as a desperate bid for independence quickly draws them deeper into a criminal world governed by fear, mistrust, and ruthless consequences. The film centers on the uneasy partnership between the two women, whose contrasting personalities and priorities shape every decision they make. Their loyalty to one another is tested as pressure mounts, while the dealer’s associates and the wider underworld close in around them. Rather than presenting crime as an easy route to success, Knucks emphasizes the instability and escalating danger that accompany their ambition. At its core, the movie explores desperation, female friendship, economic marginalization, and the desire to escape a life with few choices. Its tense, stripped-down approach focuses on the psychological cost of violence and the way survival can blur the line between empowerment and self-destruction. Knucks is ultimately a dark, character-driven portrait of two people trying to seize control of their future while discovering how difficult it is to leave the consequences of one violent act behind.
