After many years of actively avoiding her family, Mariia finally decides to pay them a visit, seemingly to celebrate her grandmother's jubilee. However, her intentions might not be as wholesome as it seems, as the true nature of her visit lies in the fact that the birthday girl decided to grant Mariia the ownership over her home. Mariia's uncle Grygorii learns of this and decides to engage in a turf war with his niece, hoping that this will result in the latter changing her mind. However, the young entrepeneur is a tougher nut to crack than it initially looks.

Summary

After years of deliberately keeping her distance from her relatives, Mariia returns to her family home under the seemingly harmless pretext of celebrating her grandmother’s birthday. The visit soon takes on greater significance when the elderly woman decides to leave Mariia ownership of the house. What initially appears to be a family gesture quickly exposes long-standing resentments, competing loyalties, and unresolved tensions. Mariia’s uncle Grygorii is unwilling to accept the decision. Determined to force his niece to reconsider, he launches a personal turf war, turning the family property into the battleground for a bitter struggle over inheritance, belonging, and control. Yet Mariia, a young entrepreneur who has built a life away from her relatives, proves far more formidable and determined than he expects. At its core, Kin is a family drama with elements of dark comedy and confrontation, exploring how property can become a symbol of memory, power, and emotional ownership. The conflict between Mariia and Grygorii also raises questions about whether family ties are sustained by genuine affection or by obligation, habit, and material interests. As the battle over the house intensifies, the film examines the difficulty of returning to a place—and a family—that one has spent years trying to escape.
