Godspeed
An ex-army captain travels to Dalyan to stop his friend's beloved from marrying another man, but grief and trauma from a combat tragedy mar his journey.
Summary
Godspeed follows Salih, a former army captain, as he sets out on a tense road trip to Dalyan with his close friend Kerim. Kerim is determined to stop Duygu, the woman he loves, from marrying someone else, and Salih agrees to help him reach her before it is too late. What begins as a straightforward mission gradually becomes a deeply personal journey for Salih, whose memories of military service and a devastating combat tragedy continue to haunt him. Engin Akyürek gives Salih a restrained, wounded presence, portraying a man who hides his pain behind duty, silence, and bitter humor. Tolga Sarıtaş brings Kerim an emotional openness that contrasts with Salih’s guarded nature, while Duygu remains the central figure in the romantic conflict. Their story is framed by the changing landscapes of the journey, which provide moments of beauty and calm but cannot erase the tension between the characters. Rather than functioning as a conventional romantic road movie, Godspeed is primarily a meditation on friendship, grief, guilt, and the lasting psychological effects of war. The film explores how people carry unresolved trauma, how loyalty can become a form of responsibility, and whether confronting the past can make room for forgiveness and renewal. Its blend of romance, military flashbacks, and intimate character drama gives the story a somber, reflective tone, with the emotional weight resting less on the destination than on what Salih and Kerim must face along the way.
