Summary
“Gamophobia” (2025) follows Marja, a woman who is deeply afraid of entering a serious relationship. Although she longs for connection, the prospect of emotional commitment repeatedly sends her retreating, leaving her caught between independence and the possibility of love. Her close friend Gupa is always ready with advice and encouragement, even though he remains single himself, making his guidance both well-meaning and somewhat ironic. Marja’s uncertain romantic life becomes more complicated when Kirina, her former girlfriend, reappears. Their past relationship was marked by repeated failures, and Kirina believes her own actions were responsible for driving them apart. When the two agree to search for a mysterious shaman and a doll once used in a prank against Marja, their efforts take on an unusual, almost supernatural dimension. The search brings old memories and unresolved feelings back to the surface, forcing Marja and Kirina to confront what happened between them and what they still mean to each other. Blending romantic drama with mystery and touches of the uncanny, “Gamophobia” explores the fear of vulnerability, the difficulty of trusting another person, and the lingering weight of regret. At its center is Marja’s struggle to understand whether self-protection has kept her safe or simply prevented her from fully living. The film also examines how guilt can distort the past and how friendship, love, and emotional honesty can become tangled when people are unwilling—or unable—to face their feelings.
