Finally Dawn

Summary

Set in Rome in the 1950s, Finally Dawn follows Mimosa, a young woman from a respectable but conservative family who is preparing to become engaged to a suitable man. Curious about the glamour of the movies, she goes to Cinecittà to audition as an extra. What begins as a tentative step toward the screen soon turns into an unexpected journey through the studio and the city, as she is swept into the company of people who seem to belong to an entirely different world. Among them is Josephine Esperanto, a charismatic American actress whose confidence and aura of danger fascinate Mimosa. Through Josephine, Mimosa encounters a colorful circle of Hollywood performers, Italian filmmakers, and partygoers, including the magnetic actor Rufus Priori. As the night unfolds, Mimosa moves between film sets, lavish gatherings, and shadowy corners of Rome, observing the intoxicating mixture of fame, desire, performance, and exploitation that surrounds the movie business.
