Summary
Election (2024) follows Nadarasan, an ordinary man with little interest in politics, who enters the race for panchayat leader out of respect for his late father and the ideals his family represents. What begins as a personal gesture soon places him at the center of a fiercely contested local election, where public service is inseparable from power, reputation, and long-standing rivalries. As Nadarasan navigates the campaign, he encounters seasoned political operators, competing candidates, loyal supporters, and members of the community whose votes carry the weight of their hopes and grievances. The contest quickly becomes more dangerous than he expected, exposing him to intimidation, violence, manipulation, and betrayals from people he thought he could trust. His lack of political experience makes him both vulnerable and, at times, an unpredictable force within the election. Blending political drama with elements of suspense, the film examines how democratic ideals can be compromised by money, influence, caste and community loyalties, and personal ambition. It also explores the burden of family legacy and the difficult choices faced by someone who enters public life for reasons that are more emotional than strategic. Through Nadarasan’s journey, Election presents local politics as an intensely personal battleground, asking whether integrity can survive once the pursuit of office becomes a matter of survival.
