Summary

Set in Massachusetts during the bitter winter of 1964, Eileen follows a lonely young woman trapped in a drab, constricted life. Eileen Dunlop works as a secretary at a prison, spends her evenings caring for her embittered alcoholic father, and moves through the world with a mixture of self-loathing, resentment, and buried longing. Her routine changes when Rebecca Saint John, an intelligent and glamorous new prison counselor, arrives at the facility. Played by Thomasin McKenzie, Eileen is observant and emotionally guarded, but beneath her meek exterior lies a restless imagination and a desire to escape the limitations imposed on her.
