Based on the life of Edgar Jopson, a young man from an affluent family, who became an underground activist and confronted President Ferdinand Marcos and his regime of terror.

Summary

Edjop (2026) follows Edgar Jopson, a young man born into privilege who gradually becomes one of the most determined opponents of Ferdinand Marcos’s authoritarian regime. Raised in an affluent family, Edgar initially belongs to a world of comfort and opportunity, but his growing awareness of political repression, inequality, and the violence surrounding him forces him to question the values and assumptions of his upbringing. As Marcos’s government tightens its grip through fear and intimidation, Edgar moves further from the safety of conventional activism and into the underground resistance. The film traces his transformation from an idealistic young observer into a committed organizer willing to confront the regime directly. At the center of the story is Edgar’s struggle to balance personal loyalties, family expectations, and the demands of a cause that places his freedom and life at risk. His encounters with fellow activists and with the machinery of the Marcos government deepen the film’s portrait of a society divided between compliance and resistance. Rather than presenting political courage as simple or cost-free, Edjop examines the difficult choices faced by people who challenge an entrenched dictatorship. Its central themes include moral awakening, class privilege, political commitment, and the price of dissent. The film also considers how personal conviction can develop into collective action, and how the desire for justice can reshape an individual’s identity. Framed as both a historical drama and a character study, Edjop offers a serious, intimate account of Edgar Jopson’s emergence as an underground activist during one of the most turbulent periods in Philippine history.
