Summary
“Crossing Lines” follows Cairo, a former criminal who has worked hard to leave his violent past behind. Now employed as a counselor helping gang members escape the underworld, he has built a quieter, more responsible life—one that is thrown into turmoil when his nephew, Hamza, suddenly disappears. Cairo soon learns that Hamza had been hiding a dangerous secret: he had become involved with Cairo’s former gang and the criminal networks operating across Copenhagen. When the police fail to make meaningful progress, Cairo is forced to confront the world he thought he had escaped. Drawing on old contacts and long-buried knowledge of the city’s underworld, he begins his own search for Hamza. The investigation takes him through a tense criminal landscape shaped by shifting loyalties, intimidation, and the lingering influence of gang culture. Although Cairo is determined not to return to violence, the pressure of the search steadily awakens instincts he has spent years trying to suppress. At the center of the film is Cairo, a man caught between redemption and responsibility. His work helping others leave gangs reflects his belief that people can change, but Hamza’s disappearance tests whether that belief can survive when family is at stake. Hamza’s absence drives the story while also revealing the dangers faced by young people drawn into criminal circles and the difficulty of breaking away once they are involved. The film explores the cost of violence, the fragile nature of rehabilitation, and the ways family loyalty can challenge even the strongest moral commitments. It also questions whether leaving a criminal life behind is ever as simple as making a personal decision, particularly when old relationships and unresolved debts remain. Set against Copenhagen’s shadowy underworld, “Crossing Lines” is a tense crime drama about second chances, inherited patterns of violence, and the struggle to protect someone without becoming the person you once were.
