Summary

Set on Grand Final Day, “Cop This” follows the last two officers stationed at a suburban police precinct that is about to be replaced by an AI-powered system known as the Terminal. Nicolette Minster and Ray O’Leary play the weary, mismatched cops whose already uncertain future becomes even more complicated when they are ordered to look after a captured drug dealer for 24 hours. With the station running on limited resources and the wider community distracted by the biggest sporting event of the year, the assignment quickly becomes an uneasy test of patience, professionalism and trust. The officers must keep their prisoner safe and under control while navigating the pressures of a job that seems increasingly designed to make them obsolete. Their confinement together creates a volatile three-way dynamic, as official authority, criminal self-interest and plain human unpredictability collide. Part police comedy, part contained character drama, “Cop This” uses its high-pressure premise to explore the changing nature of law enforcement and the uneasy prospect of handing human decisions over to technology.
