Buddy
It's Buddy!
A magical, singing orange unicorn holds his cast hostage in a surreal TV-show dimension, as he becomes more and more demented.
Summary
Buddy is a surreal dark comedy set inside the artificial world of a television show, where the boundaries between performance and reality begin to collapse. At the center is Buddy, a magical orange unicorn whose cheerful singing persona masks a growing instability. As his behavior becomes increasingly demented, he takes the members of his cast hostage, turning the brightly colored entertainment universe they inhabit into a disturbing and unpredictable prison. The principal characters are Buddy and the performers trapped alongside him. Once part of the same fantastical production, the cast must contend with the frightening transformation of their charismatic star and the strange rules of the TV-show dimension. Their struggle is not only to survive Buddy’s increasingly erratic control, but also to understand whether they are actors playing roles, fictional creations, or people capable of escaping the narrative imposed on them. Beneath its bizarre premise, Buddy explores the darker side of entertainment and celebrity, including the pressure to remain cheerful, the instability hidden behind a carefully constructed public image, and the power imbalance between a central performer and those around him. The film also plays with themes of control, identity, and the artificial nature of television, using its candy-colored fantasy setting to contrast with an atmosphere of menace. Its singing unicorn protagonist makes the story deliberately absurd, while the hostage scenario gives that absurdity an unsettling edge. The result is a strange, nightmarish portrait of a showbiz world in which charm becomes coercion and the performance may never truly end.
